Web Interpretive Signage
Placement of signs
Below is an example of a site plan showing the main visitor flow paths and some alternative locations for an interpretive sign. It shows the main and some minor visitor flow paths past an open animal exhibit, as well as six possible locations for an interpretive sign about the animal on display. Which of these six locations do you think would be the best?

The best option would be position E, provided the sign was placed lower down and at an angle. Position D is the second best option. If you had a large budget you might also include signs in locations B and F for those visitors who move away from the main path. While option C might seem to fit the principle of being perpendicular to the main pathway, it is too far away from its topic. Visitors are likely to be distracted by the opportunity of seeing the animal and will be reluctant to move back and forth between the interpretation and its topic
