World Tourism Organization Internship Opportunity for School of Tourism Alumni
Position Title:
Internship with Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific, World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)

Summary:
The UNWTO is offering a 12-month internship (commencing November 2009) to a postgraduate alumnus from UQ’s School of Tourism. The intern will undertake the duties of a research assistant working with the UNWTO Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific.
The Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific is the UNWTO’s operational arm assigned with the implementation of UNWTO's general program of work within the region. Asia's Regional Representation also serves as UNWTO's direct channel through which the national, regional and local tourism development needs and concerns of the member States are communicated to the Secretariat. Objectives include:
- Provide member countries with the necessary support and assistance for the development, management and promotion of their tourism industries to ensure that Asia and the Pacific region maintains its lead role in international tourism growth.
- Foster partnerships between government agencies, private sector members and educational institutions through the organisation of conferences, workshops and seminars on contemporary tourism issues.
- Make available tailor-made contingency plans, crisis management plans and establish early tourism-oriented warning systems network, which member States could tap into when needed.
- Promote UNWTO's ST-EP (Sustainable Tourism – Eliminating Poverty) initiative along with the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals for the benefit of, especially, developing countries within Asia and the Pacific region.
Pay rate:
Salary of 700€ per month* (dependent on educational qualifications)
*Applicants must appreciate that a personal contribution to living expenses will be required during the internship.
Commencement date:
November 2009 for a one year contract

- Internship available to graduates of the School of Tourism, The University of Queensland
- All applications from MBus and PhD graduates will be considered, however, an academic background in tourism will be regarded highly.
- English essential
- Intern must have current medical and risk insurance
