UQ Meeting Visitor Needs
The University of Queenslands, School of Tourism researchers are helping Visitor Information Centres across Australia provide better customer service.

The project has resulted in the publication of a handbook showcasing ‘best practice’ for managers and staff of visitor information centres: Meeting Visitor Needs: a handbook for managers and staff to Visitor Information Centres

“It is envisaged that this project will benefit the tourism industry by enhancing professionalism thereby enabling staff to widely promote and support local tourism industries and encourage staff and volunteers to upgrade their skills and knowledge.” Professor Roy Ballantyne, Head of the School of Tourism.

The UQ project was designed to facilitate the sharing of ‘best practice’ approaches to information dissemination, customer service, staff training, sign and exhibit design and evaluation.

“The manual is written in a non-academic style and includes photographs, examples and case studies” Karen Hughes research officer on the UQ team

“It also provides discussion questions and checklists to enable centres to evaluate and improve their services and facilities.” Karen Hughes.

The manual can be viewed on-line via the Sustainable Tourism CRC website:
