 Holiday Inn Hotel Technology Competition

Holiday Inn Hotel Technology Competition

The Holiday Inn Hotel Technology Competition is embedded in the coursework of Hotel Technology Systems and is an inaugral event. Students examine and deliver a proposal on hotel technology systems for a fictitious hotel, “Hotel Virtuoso” in Brisbane. Areas of technology explored by students include front office and reservations, human resource management, catering and banquet systems and customs interactive systems within the hotel context. The event culminates in a showcase event with the course’s three top performing teams presenting to a team of judges including the Holiday Inn Brisbane General Manager at the Holiday Inn Brisbane. In addition to the judging panel, the School engages the local community by inviting schools with a strong tourism and hospitality curriculum to attend the presentations.

The winning group from 2008, “Eagle Solutions”, were one of three top performing groups across The University of Queensland’s St Lucia and Ipswich campuses who were selected to present at the Holiday Inn showcase event in front of a judging panel comprising Holiday Inn Brisbane, General Manager, Mr Raymond Faulkner, Holiday Inn Financial Controller, Ms Madeline Owen-Evans and Professor Roy Ballantyne of the School of Tourism.

“Eagle Solutions” won the competition on the basis of professional presentation skills, application and research of technology concepts and for their overall performance at the event.

The winning group won significant prizes provided by the Holiday Inn Brisbane.
